I think that writing may be the most
powerful communication there is. (For
one thing, it's the only time you can
talk about yourself all you want without

conversation, particularly concerning a
subject that we're passionate about,
people will often focus on what they
want to say next while the other person
is talking rather than giving their full
attention. And even if we find somebody
who's willing to listen without
interruption, we'll often find ourselves
digressing, branching off into other

the point we wanted to make. Thoughts
and words are fleeting, as easy to lose
track of as autumn leaves. But when we
write a thought or feeling to someone,
it becomes a physical, something we can

reveal a deeper part of us, not just to
